Never Stop Learning

I am a voracious reader. While others are watching TV or playing games on their phones, I will be engrossed in the pages of a book. Well, at least the glow of my kindle lol.

Much of this love for reading can be traced back to my teenage years. I used reading as an escape from my reality. A way to mask the pain that I was feeling and to imagine a world without tragedy. I would sit in my room and enjoy the wonders of imagine the worlds and people I read about. I read some of the great novels, non-fiction, comic books etc... if it was interesting I read it.

I enjoyed imagining the world that the author described or learning from an autobiography of some famous person who had overcome adversary to be successful. I even read Business Books because even as a teenager I knew I would be an entrepreneur.

Timothy, a young man in Bible, had his journey guided by a mentor named Paul.  In Paul's last recorded letter, he acknowledged that Timothy was first introduced to the Gospel by his grandmother and mother. Then Paul exhorted Timothy to continue in the Christian way because "from childhood you have known the Holy scriptures."

As I look over my life I was raised in church from the tender age of 6. Called into ministry, and was mentored by my Pastor to be a minister of the Gospel. I was groomed to be and walk out my calling. Much the same way as Timothy was by Paul. what does this have to do with my love for reading, Well, I am getting there.

For the believer, learning about the spiritual life should never cease to delight us and help us grow. reading and study can be a big part of that, but we also need others to encourage and teach us.

I believe the reading that I did helped me to be able to dive deep into the word of the Lord and understand the Bible with a desire to break it down into small bite size pieces to feed His people. I remember preparing for my first sermon at 14, I studied so much that my Pastor had to tell me to stop studying and pray for revelation. I learned then, you can only study so much but you need God's guidance to revelation the truth of the matter.

So in part, I learn from reading but I also learn from heeding to the Voice of God. I am thankful for a mentor that pointed me to Christ and helped me be the best preacher I can be. Even now I am still learning, reading and be mentored.

Who has helped you grow in your faith? And who in turn can you help? That's a great way to enhance our appreciation of God and strengthen our relationship with Him. The best part of this getting help so you can help someone else is...you are always in learning mode. you are constantly learning and growing.

I Want To Be Authentic But How? This is a 7 part series - Part 1

What Is Real?
The Christian life that is real will display several “essential features” giving evidence of a changed person. These features are very clear in I John, where we see several “tests” that compare our lives to that of Jesus Christ… the “original”.
So what does it mean to live the authentic Christian life? Many try to make it a very complicated issue, but God’s Word makes it very clear. It does this by giving us a model for our lives. Jesus Christ was clearly an original.
Think about the immense influence He had during the short time He walked on this earth. He is the model for all believers to follow. We can know who Christians are by how closely they resemble the “original”. John had a deeper understanding of the original because he had seen, heard, and touched Christ. Through this life-changing encounter, he was compelled to live in a way that reflected the mission of Jesus!
Today’s Challenge: Think about just one feature of Christ you wish you had (His patience, His joy, etc.). Hone in on that one attribute over the next few days. Pray that God will reveal to you specific adjustments that can help you display more of this characteristic.
Doing this successfully will ultimately display more of who Christ is. You will impact and inspire more people than you could ever imagine. The kicker is people will sense the difference without you saying or telling them since it is becoming a natural part of your life.
Leadership Thought: “People don’t always remember what you say or even what you do, but they always remember how you made them feel.” – Maya Angelou
What shift will you make this week to help others see Christ in your life?
